Southern Bridesmaids’ Luncheon

I recently had the pleasure of helping plan a bridesmaids’ luncheon.  For anyone not familiar with this type of event, the etiquette/rules are pretty flexible.  Typically it is hosted by the bride in honor of her bridesmaids or the bridesmaids in honor of the bride.  In my hometown in Louisiana, the bridesmaids’ luncheon is hosted by the bride’s aunts and the MOB’s closest friends.  It can be any time of day and formality, though luncheons are the most common, and occurs the day before or day of the wedding.  It’s all about having fun spending time together, and it’s the perfect chance for the bride to make a toast thanking everyone and give the bridesmaids their gifts.

In this beautiful bridesmaids’ luncheon, the bride and hostesses opted to have a luncheon at a restaurant near the wedding venue.  Mimosas were passed when guests arrived, along with bacon cheddar biscuits, warm cinnamon sugar sweet potato doughnuts, and deviled egg tartine.  The luncheon menu included a mixed green salad, shrimp and grits, vegetable frittata, and house burger.  To finish, the guests enjoyed champagne and the southern wedding tradition of cake pulls.  Each bridesmaid pulls one ribbon out of the cake, and the attached charm on the end signifies a fortune or prediction for her future.  Common charms include a ring for next to be married, a heart for new love, a camera for capturing life’s beauty, and an Eiffel Tower for exciting trips to come.  Bridesmaids and guests were all smiles during this fun tradition, and it was the perfect addition to the luncheon.  I’m delighted the bride and her guests had a lovely time and honored to have been a part of the wedding weekend.
